Crisp has recovered from a shoulder problem |
Paralympians Jonathan Fox and James Crisp both starred with new world 100m backstroke records at the British Championships in Sheffield on Friday. Fox, from Newquay, set a new best in the S7 category while Sheffield's Crisp did the same in the S9 category. It follows the world records for Liz Johnson and Sascha Kindred earlier in the week. Johnson improved her own S6 100m backstroke mark with Kindred setting a new best in the S6 100m butterfly. Fox, the European champion, clocked one minute 11.99 seconds to beat American Lantz Lamback's mark of 1:12.09 and take gold in the event. Crisp, who missed the Beijing Paralympics with a shoulder injury, knocked 0.02 seconds off Matt Cowdrey's mark of 1:03.34 for silver with bronze going to Gallica's Thomas Young. This week's event is part of the Paralympic team's preparations for their World Championship trials at the same venue in two weeks' time.
