Britain's Dave Roberts equalled Tanni Grey-Thompson's Paralympic 11-gold haul after winning the 50m freestyle in a new world record on Sunday.

It was the Welshman's fourth Games title, winning in 27.95 seconds, with team-mate Matt Walker grabbing silver.

"I've achieved something very few people have," the 28-year-old said.

After her 100m freestyle gold, 13-year-old Eleanor Simmonds won the 400m freestyle, while Louise Watkin and Matt Whorwood won bronzes in other races.

Roberts has now won 16 Paralympic medals at three Games and said he was delighted to have matched Grey-Thompson's achievements.

He said: "That is unbelievable. This is the speech I love to give."

Video - Swimming star hopes to stay off school

Simmonds from Swansea lowered her world record by almost seven seconds to 5:41.34 as she battled brilliantly to stay ahead of the Netherland's swimmer Mirjam de Koning-Peper.

Simmonds said: "I went in there to do a personal best and see what would happen. I was just going in there to break it a bit but seven seconds is just amazing."

"I already had a gold medal, so anything else was a bonus."

Team-mates Nyree Lewis and Mhari Love finished sixth and seventh.

Whorwood came third in the men's 400m freestyle, while Watkin won bronze in the women's S9 50m freestyle behind Natalie Du Toit, who collected her fifth gold of the Games.

GB's Heather Frederiksen missed out on her fifth medal, finishing seventh in the 50m freestyle (S8).
