It was an impressive Paralympic debut for Rushgrove |
Britain's Paralympic silver medallist Ben Rushgrove has withdrawn from the Games after aggravating a foot injury. The 20-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, was second in Tuesday's T36 100m final on his Paralympic debut. After GB's medical team said there was a risk of long-term damage if Rushgrove ran again, he pulled out of the 200m. Rushgrove will now focus on 2012 and said: "I am disappointed to not be on the start line for the 200m, but the bigger picture is more important." After winning his silver behind Ukraine's Roman Pavlyk in the 100m, Rushgrove had to collect his medal on crutches. He added: "Beijing has been a great experience and to win a medal in the 100m was fantastic. "I will now be concentrating my efforts on getting fit and beginning my preparations for the next major event."
