Great Britain will have two Paralympic teams competing in the football events at this year's Games in Beijing. For the first time since the 1992 Barcelona Games, Britain is fielding a team in the seven-a-side competition for athletes with cerebral palsy. And it will be a first foray into the five-a-side blind event, with a 10-man squad being named. ParalympicsGB Chief Executive Phil Lane said: "It's brilliant to be able to take both these squads to the Games." The seven-a-side team earned their place through the performance of England at the CPISRA World Championships in Brazil, where the team finished seventh to clinch the final Paralympic place for Britain. And Britain's five-a-side team earned its place through the IBSA European Championships in Greece in September 2007 where the team won silver. David Clarke, who will celebrate his 37th birthday out in Beijing, is Britain's most experience blind player having played in the goalball team at the 1996 Paralympics.
