A squad of 11 archers will represent Great Britain at the Paralympic Games, which start in Beijing on 6 September.

The most experienced member is 59-year-old Kathy Smith, who has won one gold, two silvers and a bronze medal at her previous four Games.

John Cavanagh is looking to replicate his W1 category victory four years ago.

Among the nine debutants is John Stubbs, who was twice given the last rites and lost his left leg following a road traffic accident when he was 24.

Stubbs has become a world champion and been awarded an MBE since taking archery up 12 years ago.

He said: "I have gone on to achieve things I never would have dreamt of, and being selected for Beijing just has to be the pinnacle of it all."

Much will be expected of the talented and successful women's compound trio of Danielle Brown, Mel Clarke and Pippa Britton.

Strong as a team, they will almost certainly be rivals for the individual gold medal.

Britton said: "We're a team and we're friends.

"If we compete against each other, we compete to win, and once one of us loses then we cheer on the others."

Archery GB's Paralympic coach Tim Hazell added: "This is a very strong squad and I have no doubt that we will be bringing home some medals."
