Norfolk won his ninth career Super Series title in Japan |
Britain's Peter Norfolk is set to climb back to the top of the world rankings after a superb victory in the quad main draw singles final of the Japan Open. Norfolk beat Tzu-Hsuan Huang of Chinese Taipei 6-2 6-0 to wrap up a third straight Super Series title in Japan - the equivalent of a Grand Slam.
"We had a few long rallies in the first set but after that I changed my tactics and focus," Norfolk said.
"I'm very pleased with the win and to go back to world number one."
It was not such a good day for British number one Jayant Mistry in the men's main draw doubles final.
The Loughborough athlete teamed up with Japanese rising star Shingo Kunieda but the duo were edged 6-4 6-4 by top seeds Frenchman Michael Jeremiasz and Satoshi Saida of Japan.
Mistry and Norfolk both return to Britain for the National Wheelchair Tennis Championships which begin in Gloucester on 26 May.
