Weir was unmatched throughout the race in Gothenburg |
Britain's David Weir delivered an imperious performance to win 1500m wheelchair gold at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. The London Marathon champion led from start to finish and crossed the line more than 20m ahead of his rivals in three minutes 7.56 seconds.
Swiss Heinz Frei led the chase in the home straight but was pushed into third by Frenchman Alain Fuss.
Briton Tushar Patel fought hard but fell away to finish ninth.
"I came here to win so I am very happy now," said Weir.
"I used the same tactics as I always do. I paced myself and I prepared well."
