Weir claims success in Helsinki
Wheelchair racer David Weir
Weir has been in excellent form so far this year
David Weir bettered his own British record to win the 100m T54 demonstration race at the World Championships in Helsinki on Saturday.

Weir, who will compete in the 200m event next weekend, clocked a time of 14.15 seconds, to edge out Dutch rival Kenny van Weeghel by 0.04 seconds.

Weir's previous best of 14.17 was set in the heats of last year's Athens Paralympics.

Home favourite Leo-Pekka Tahti finished third in 14.22 seconds.

Weir's victory was revenge for finishing second to the Finn in the Paralympic final.

"I felt confident going into the race," he said. "I warmed up well and it went really well and I'm very proud.

"Leo's always going to be good at the start but I get a lot of power in the final stages.

"It also looked like he stopped pushing towards the end of the race - I don't know why."
