Gareth Duke claimed a shock Paralympic swimming gold medal when he won the men's SB6 100m breaststroke title. Duke, who qualified third fastest, set a new Games record of one minute 29.93 seconds, beating world record holder Travis Mohr by 0.03 of a second.
"I really didn't think I could do that. It'll take me a few weeks to wipe the smile from my face," he said.
"I couldn't have won without my family and my coaches who have pushed me so hard over the past while."
"I was convinced that Mohr had beaten me and I'm sure I will cry when I get my gold medal.
"It's amazing for my first Paralympics and I will took to improve on that time when it comes to Beijing."
There was more joy for Britain's men in another night of success in the pool. Robert Welbourn took silver in the 400m freestyle S10, finishing just over a second behind Canadian Benoit Huot.
James Crisp swam superbly for his silver, while the men's 4x50m relay team overcame the challenge of Japan to take a deserved bronze.
Dervis Konuralp also claimed bronze in the men's 200m individual medley SM13 final, but there was no joy for Darren Leach in the 100m freestyle S12 final .
