Newstead has put in some hard work ahead of the Games |
Great Britain's Isabel Newstead picked up another Paralympic gold after successfully retaining her women's SH1 air pistol title on Sunday. Newstead finished with a score of 466.8 but was pushed all the way by Lin Chin Mei of Chinese Taipei, who finished on 465.1 in a tense final.
The 49-year-old was the leading qualifier after a score of 371 put her four points ahead of the field.
And Newstead held her nerve to secure her ninth Paralympic gold medal.
"I've never worked so hard to win a gold," a delighted Newstead admitted afterwards.
"I wasn't shooting well all through the competition and to come away with a result like that is very satisfying.
"I was very nervous but I kept telling myself that this is what I do and all the training I put in has paid off."
