Miller gets Athens boost
Some of Team GB's top athletes finished their Paralympic preparations at the Tartan Games at the Gateshead Stadium.

Double Paralympic champion Stephen Miller was in superb form on home territory, throwing 33.94m in the Club - 45cm better than his world record.

Kenny Churchill, who will compete in the javelin in Athens, threw close to his world record with 44.56m.

Washington sprinter Hazel Robson, who took gold in the 100m in Sydney, also looks in good shape to try and repeat the feat in Athens.

The next generation of Paralympic hopefuls were also competing at Gateshead and north-east athletes Scott Rennie, Lee Hunter, Rebecca Anson and Mary Suggett all staked a claim to be included in future UK Athletics development schemes.

The Tartan Games has incorporated disabled events for a number of years and has proved popular with athletes from all over the country.
