Lewis beat local rival Phil Taylor to reach the final in Dublin |
Stoke-on-Trent's Adrian Lewis remains confident he will soon win his first major title after losing the World Grand Prix in Dublin to James Wade. The 25-year-old admitted that his 5-4 semi-final defeat of Phil Taylor on Saturday had drained him. "I was really up for playing Phil but against James I missed a few stupid shots and that killed me," he said. "It's the biggest game I've played in but I'm learning, it won't be the last final we compete against each other." Wade 27, won his second Grand Prix and his fifth major title with a 6-3 victory as he collected a £100,000 prize. Lewis added: "Overall, I'll take a lot from the tournament and especially from beating Phil, and I'll be back. I'm disappointed, but I'll keep battling." The match was evenly balanced in the opening exchanges with the first four sets were shared, but Wade crucially took the next two to go 4-2 ahead and, after Lewis won the seventh, he took two more sets of his own to wrap up the victory.
