Chisnall believes he can become the new BDO World darts champion |
St Helens' Dave Chisnall will be treating the BDO World Darts Championship final like any other game. Chisnall beat world number one Tony O'Shea 6-3 in Saturday's semi-final and will now meet Martin Adams for the chance to be crowned champion. "It's just another game," the 29-year-old told BBC Sport. "If I win, I win, if I lose, I lose. I'll just go out there and play my game and hopefully I will come out as the better man." Chisnall is making just his second appearance at the Lakeside after being beaten in the first round by Adams in 2009. "I've practised hard with this tournament in mind for the last six months," added Chisnall. "It's really brought my game on. "I don't practice at home, but go to Morecambe and practice with my mates. "After going out in the first round last year I can't believe that I've got to the final this year. It's a great feeling." Chisnall won through to the last four by overturning a 4-1 deficit to beat Ted Hankey 5-4 in the quarter-final and was again behind against O'Shea, trailing 2-0 and 3-2. "I still felt good when I was behind because I wasn't doing much wrong," said the Lancashire county player. "I'd missed a few doubles but knew that if I hit them I would get a chance and I did. "I came in at the break and just threw at the board, which is exactly what I did when I played Ted." From 3-2 down at the halfway point, Chisnall dropped just one more leg to win four successive sets and earn the right to play for the £100,000 winners cheque. He took the final set with back-to-back checkouts of 164 and 121, winning the match with a bullseye. "I'm a big scorer, it's just my doubles that sometimes let me down," said Chisnall. "I had a go at 164 earlier in the match but missed on treble 18 so switched to treble 19. "I didn't feel anything in the last leg and I wasn't nervous. For the final bull, I just threw the dart and it went in."
