Gary Anderson
Anderson is the man to beat at the Lakeside

Top seed Gary Anderson gets proceedings under way at the Lakeside World Darts Championship on Saturday, 3 January.

The Scot is first on the oche at 1300 GMT at Frimley Green in Surrey when he takes on Robert Wagner of Norway.

He is followed by last year's beaten finalist, Simon Whitlock of Australia, who plays Mark Barilli of Scotland.

Sunday sees title holder Mark Webster of Wales face Dutchman Willy van der Wiel. Martin Adams, the 2006 champion, plays Dave Chisnall on 5 January.

Reigning women's champion Anastasia Dobromyslova will not be back to defend her Lakeside crown.

The Russian, who ended Trina Gulliver's run of seven straight titles in the 2007 final, has joined the British Darts Organisation's rival the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC)

The BDO issued on a statement on its website saying: "The British Darts Organisation regrets to announce that it has been informed in writing that from Monday, 8 December, Anastasia Dobromyslova is no longer a playing member of the BDO and World Darts Federation."

Dobromyslova will play Dutchman Remco van Eijden in the preliminary round of the Ladbrokes-sponsored PDC World Championship (19 December-4 January).

Extensive coverage of the Lakeside World Darts Championships will feature on BBC TV and the BBC Sport website.
