Smith reeled off three straight legs to take the first set |
Andy Smith overcame an out-of-sorts Wayne Mardle to clinch his place in the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix in Dublin. The 'Pieman' dominated from start to finish, dropping just three legs in a 3-0 success and clinched victory by checking out on 120.
"Wayne wasn't at his best, we all know that, but the draw has opened up a bit for me now," said Smith.
Ex-world champion Bob Anderson beat local favourite Anto McCracken.
The 'Limestone Cowboy' followed up his win over world number one Colin Lloyd with a 3-1 win over McCracken, who only arrived 40 minutes before the match after getting held up in traffic.

"I've never played Anto before so he was a surprise package," admitted Anderson.
"He was tough and the crowd, quite rightly, were right behind him - sometimes at the wrong moment.
"If I took out a good finish I didn't leap across the stage, I just tried to keep my cool."
Anderson will now play Terry Jenkins, who edged qualifier Andy Callaby 3-2 in a hard-fought contest.
Callaby, who put out 2004 World Championship runner-up Kevin Painter in the previous round, revealed afterwards that he had felt unwell during the contest.
Jenkins said he was now hopeful that he could reach the latter stages of the competition.
"The top half of the draw is really open, to be honest. I'm feeling pretty confident," he said.
Fifth seed Peter Manley beat Lionel Sams 3-1 in the final game of the evening.
