A terse handshake between Manley (left) and Lewis after their match |
Adrian Lewis has accused Peter Manley of using gamesmanship after he lost their controversial quarter-final at the PDC World Championship. At one point the 20-year-old walked off, claiming Manley tried to distract him when he was about to throw.
Lewis said: "I knew Peter would use his tactics. I didn't actually hear what he was saying but it was swearing."
Manley responded: "Maybe Adrian wanted to blame someone else because he didn't play as well as he had all week."
The 43-year-old has a reputation for gamesmanship and already rattled his opponents in this year's third round by keeping Dennis Smith waiting on stage while he changed his shirt.
Manley then upset Lewis by taking his time retrieving his darts from the board before he was later accused of swearing by the debutant.
But Manley, who is chairman of the Professional Darts Players' Association, played down his antics.
"It was a tense match, it was all in the heat of the moment and a bit of experience came through in the end," said Manley.
"If I've done wrong, I've done wrong and the governing body can put me in line."
Defending champion Phil Taylor, who is also Lewis' practice partner and mentor, has already called for action to be taken if Manley is proven guilty of using unfair tactics.
However, the experienced 45-year-old admitted he did not watch the contest as he was preparing for his quarter-final against Kevin Painter.
"If it's proven that Peter said something then he deserves to be punished and I think they should replay the match," said Taylor.
Away from the cauldron atmosphere of the match, Lewis vowed to take a lesson from his controversial defeat.
"Phil (Taylor) told me to walk off if anything like that happened," said Lewis. "But Peter beat me fair and square. I learned a lot and I'll be back."
