Mr Raj Sandher, the surgeon who removed a shard of velodrome track from Malaysian cyclist Aziz Awang, talks BBC Radio 5 live's Drive programme through the procedure.
Awang's left calf was speared by the shard following a collision in the men's keirin event at the Track World Cup in Manchester at the weekend.
He is now flying home to Malaysia following the successful operation, and may even be able to participate in next month's World Championships - if his wound avoids infection in the coming days.
