Shanaze Reade confident of BMX and track wins in 2012

Shanaze Reade remains confident that she can win medals in track cycling and BMX events at the London Olympics.

Reade will race on the track for the first time in two years when she competes in the team sprint alongside Victoria Pendleton at the World Cup.

The pair won gold for Great Britain in the team sprint event in 2007 and 2008.

"I want to try to compete in both track and BMX (in London), so this is the perfect opportunity to start that path," said the 22-year-old from Crewe.

"It's not easy to combine two different disciplines but track helps BMX and BMX helps track.

"One helps the leg-speed aspect and the other the strength aspect. It is not easy but they do help each other.

"I have no target in mind for what I want to achieve this weekend. I just want to go out there, put a great performance in and give it 110%.

"If I can come away having done that, that is a starting point looking ahead to the Olympics.

"Victoria and I are doing everything we possibly can to be the best come 2012 and things are looking good so far."

Reade competed solely in the BMX event in Beijing in 2008 and was the clear favourite to win gold, but crashed out in the final.
