Ed Clancy is the world champion in the men's omnium, a new event in the Olympic track cycling schedule, and he helped Britain to team pursuit gold at Beijing 2008.
But even that is not enough to guarantee him a place in the British team for London 2012. The sheer quality of Britain's cyclists, coupled with new rule changes, has made the fight to get into Team GB at London even harder.
Clancy goes in the men's team pursuit at the Track World Cup in Manchester this weekend, determined to reach the Games in at least one - and maybe two - events.
BBC Sport's Ollie Williams reports.
