Welsh teenager Sam Harrison won gold in the men's omnium at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Beijing.

With world champion Ed Clancy not in China, 18-year-old Harrison seized his chance going into Saturday's run in the silver spot.

Harrison clinched gold with 28 points after producing second in the individual pursuit, 10th in the scratch race and second in the time trial.

He edged out Canada's Zach Bell and Roger Kluse of Germany, who was third.

Commonwealth Games silver medallist David Daniell could only manage eighth in the men's keirin having failed to reach the final.

On Friday, Great Britain took bronze in the team pursuit, with the quartet comprising Mark Christian, Andrew Fenn, Erick Rowsell and Simon Yates.

The men's sprint team of Dave Daniell, Phillip Hindes, and Peter Mitchell had to settle for sixth place in their event.

Great Britain's star names - like Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton - missed this event, the third in a four-leg series, but will be back in action for the final leg in Manchester next month.
