Almost 100 children on the Isle of Man will get the chance to try their hand at BMX racing, in a pilot scheme run by the Manx Sports Development Unit and Ramsey BMX Club.
Children between the ages of 8-15 will learn the skills they need to take their riding to the next level, including the start gate, pumping to keep up speed and handling burm corners.
Cycling Development Officer Juan Watney told BBC Isle of Man: We are always looking at opportunities to develop the interest in cycling on the Island and BMX is proving very popular.
The scheme is an opportunity for children to give BMX a go. Keen riders can develop their skills and newcomers will get an opportunity to learn the basics in a relaxed environment.
Northern Co-ordinator for the Sports Development Unit, Kirsty Cooper hopes the scheme will see many new faces continue with the sport. Its great to see how much enjoyment they are taking from the day.
Watney continued: "There is a deep cycling culture in the Isle of Man, if we can tap into that I'm sure the club can continue to go from strength to strength."
Watney said: At the moment it is just a pilot, but the first session has gone really well and the feedback from the kids was excellent. It is really good to see new faces with so much potential."
"Next year we're hoping to continue with these sessions as well as putting on more at Nobles Park BMX track, which BMX Isle of Man is heavily involved in."
The next planned sessions will be held on the Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 of August, with places available on both couses.
