Bradley Wiggins has refocused his sights on trying for a stage win in the 2010 Tour de France instead of concentrating on his overall finish. The 30-year-old Team Sky leader came into the race with high hopes but changed his target from the top three or four to top 10, and now lies 21st. "I don't know whether to persist and finish 23rd or 24th or put everything into the last time trial now," he said. "Everyone's on their knees. I've maybe got a chance of a stage win." Triple Olympic gold-medallist Wiggins came fourth in the 2009 Tour and was keen to match that, but has struggled for form and admitted his displays have been "consistently mediocre".  | 606: DEBATE |
He said being so honest about his performance had been "like a weight off my shoulders". Wiggins had been hoping to become the first Briton to make it on to the podium at the end of the Tour, but he has now largely written off this year's Tour and is thinking about how he will approach next year's instead. "I won't do the Giro [d'Italia] again," he stated. "It's just too demanding now. "I'm already thinking for next year that the classics-Tour approach might be the way to do it, maybe experimenting with some altitude training as well because I've never done it."
