Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has confirmed that he will ride in this month's Tour de Suisse.

The 38-year-old American is using the race, from 12-20 June, as preparation for July's Tour de France.

Race spokesman Rolf Huser said: "Lance is a big star and it is important to have him in the starting line-up."

Armstrong's preparations for the Tour de France, which begins on 3 July, were hampered when he crashed out of last month's Tour of California.

The Radioshack rider has not competed in the Tour de Suisse since winning it in 2001, before going on to win his third Tour de France.
