Cummings was making his first appearance for Team Sky |
British cyclist Steve Cummings finished an impressive fourth as Team Sky made their European debut in Marseille. The 28-year-old worked his way into a 10-man group which moved ahead of the field on the final climb in the GP Cyclist la Marseillaise race. France's Jonathan Hivert took victory ahead of Dutchman Johnny Hoogerland and Samuel Dumoulin of France. "Of course I'd have liked to have won but it was a pretty good start," said Cummings after his first Team Sky race. "There were plenty of attacks going on, especially from the second-last climb, and I was able to respond. I felt really strong throughout the race." Team Sky's other six riders all finished in the main bunch over the 139.7 km route. The same seven-man squad now move on to the five-day Etoile de Besseges, starting on Wednesday.
