Julian Corlett won the opening round of the Manx Mountain Bike Club's National Championships, held at Tholt-y-Will plantation on Monday.

Corlett finished the three-lap race almost 10 minutes clear of Robert Cormode on a long and highly technical cross-country course.

Martin Bonser took third with Andrew Brooks fourth and, despite a puncture and broken chain, Guy Whaley was fifth.

Julie Lyness was the first woman to finish, minus one lap in 14th.

Round two of the series will be on 17 May.
