Overnight leader Cadel Evans waits pensively for the start of the stage, knowing that his rivals are bound to attack.

In stark contrast to the searing temperatures of stage 14, the riders set off in treacherous conditions.

The first order of business on the stage is the 20km ascent of the Col Agnel, just 38km from the start.

The weather closes in again as the main bunch descend the Col Agnel, and 2006 Tour winner Oscar Pereiro falls badly after hitting a barrier and falling several metres onto the road below.

Pereiro is clearly in pain as the doctor reaches him. He is later diagnosed with suspected fractures to his left shoulder.

Simon Gerrans, out in the breakaway since the 12km-mark, shows off his braces as he wins the stage.

But the real winner on the day is Frank Schleck, who takes over the leader's yellow jersey.
