Valverde out-sprinted Davide Rebellin and Frank Schleck |
Alejandro Valverde of Spain won Belgium's Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic for the second time after taking part in a three-man breakaway. Valverde outsprinted Italian Davide Rebellin and Frank Schleck of Luxembourg, who also moved clear of the pack 20 km from the finish. Britons Chris Froome, David Millar and Steve Cummings were all in a group eight minutes, 11 seconds behind. Valverde last won the race in 2006 and finished second in 2007. The trio he was with dropped a fourth rider, Frank Schleck's brother Andy, on the last big climb, the Cote de Saint Nicholas.
