Geraint Thomas was the best-placed Barloworld rider |
Welshman Geraint Thomas made a more than respectable start to the Tour de France in Sunday's first stage over the 203km from London to Canterbury. The 21-year-old's 42nd-place finish in the body of the peloton ensured the Cardiff man lies 43rd overall.
Thomas was the best placed rider from his British-based Barloworld team.
David Millar, in third, is the best placed of the five British riders, with Bradley Wiggins fifth, Charles Wegelius 89th and Mark Cavendish 185th.
Australian Robbie McEwen bounced back from a late crash to win the first full stage, although Fabian Cancellara holds the early overall lead following the Swiss rider's prologue win on Saturday.
Monday's second stage will cover the 168.5km from Dunkirk in France to Ghent in Belgium.
