Briton Bradley Wiggins set a fast time early on
Ukraine's Serhiy Honchar clocks 1:02:47.87 to win the 52km time trial from Saint-Gregoire to Rennes in Saturday's stage seven.

Britain's Bradley Wiggins (1:04:53.37) finishes 28th, while compatriot David Millar (1:05:17.89) ends 37th.

American Bobby Julich crashes out of the race after falling, while Levi Leipheimer loses five minutes.

Belgian Tom Boonen is last man out but comes home more than three minutes adrift to relinquish his yellow jersey.

1636: Tom Boonen completes the time trial in 1:05:35.13 for 41st place.

1627: Hotly fancied Australian Michael Rogers, the world time trial champion, comes home fourth, one minute 24 seconds back.

1624: American George Hincapie clocks a disappointing 1:04:25.67, yielding two minutes 42 seconds to the leader.

1617: American Floyd Landis comes in second despite swapping bikes because of a puncture early on.

1610: Ukraine's Serhiy Honchar takes over Sebastian Lang's long-time lead by more than one minute.

1606: Britain's David Millar comes home two minutes 30 seconds back.

1557: Germany's Andreas Kloden comes in 39 seconds behind in fourth, while American David Zabriskie loses 52 seconds.

Back down the road, Floyd Landis is second fastest at the second checkpoint (36.5km) behind Serhiy Honchar.

1548: American fancy Levi Leipheimer suffers a disastrous day in the saddle and comes home more than five minutes behind the leader.

Australian world time trial champion Michael Rogers was 46 seconds adrift at the first checkpoint, while Briton David Millar, who practised on the course in June, slips down to 27th after checkpoint two.

1542: Andreas Kloden is 12 seconds adrift at the second checkpoint at 36.5km, while American George Hincapie is struggling at 52 seconds back after 16.5km.

1533: Denis Menchov finishes 40 seconds back in third in 1:03:27.5, pushing Bradley Wiggins down to 14th.

Floyd Landis is second fastest through the opening 16.5km in 19:54.

1531: The new best time for the opening 16.5km is Ukraine rider Serhiy Honchar (T-Mobile) with 19:37. That's 22 seconds better than Andreas Kloden.

1529: Denis Menchov slows in the third quarter and records the third fastest time after 46.3km of 56:38, 17 seconds behind. Meanwhile, American star Floyd Landis has suffered a puncture.

1513: Briton David Millar, 14th overall, is on course. Meanwhile, Germany's Andreas Kloden goes through the first checkpoint in a new best time of 19:59 and fancied American David Zabriskie is fourth, 15 seconds back.

Russian Denis Menchov is equal fastest at the second mark (36.5km) in 44:53.

1459: Former fastest starter Mikel Astarloza comes in 11th.

1453: Russia's Denis Menchov, the Tour of Spain winner, is the new fastest man at 16.5km in 20:07.

1450: American Bobby Julich of CSC suffers a major tumble as he enters a roundabout and slides on gravel. He is cut and holding his wrist and looks unlikely to carry on. He clambers into an ambulance and is driven off to hospital.

1447: The quality of riders is improving now with another new best time at the first checkpoint of 20:22 set by Spain's Carlos Sastre.

1438: Swedish rider Thomas Lovkvist (Francaise des Jeux) breaks the mark for the opening sector with 20:27. But Mikel Astarloza, previous joint fastest over the opening 16.5km, slows in the second quarter, reaching 36.5km one minute 14 seconds adrift.

1418: Spain's Mikel Astarloza of AG2R has set out with the bit between his teeth and equals Sylvain Chavanel's fastest first split time of 20:33 at 16.5km on a sunny afternoon in Brittany. Chavanel, though, later admitted he had gone off too quickly.

1400: France's Sylvain Chavanel comes in seventh despite setting the fastest first split to knock Bradley Wiggins down to eighth.

1337: We finally have a new leader. Sebastian Lang of Germany beats Gustav Larsson by 29 seconds with a time of 1:02:47.870.

1330: Sebastian Lang of Germany is speeding up in the latter stages and hares through the 46km checkpoint in 56:20, 15 seconds faster than leader Gustav Larsson.

1327: Britain's Bradley Wiggins says he is is delighted by his time trial performance after being told to go hard as a marker for team-mate Sylvain Chavanel.

"Personally, I'm pleased with that. That's the best I've ever done in a time trial this far into a big race. After a week's racing I've still got good legs," said Wiggins, the Olympic pursuit champion on the track.

1315: France's Sylvain Chavanel (Cofidis) breaks Larsson's stranglehold with a fastest time through the first sector (16.5km) of 20:33, three seconds better than the Swede.

1250: Sixty riders have now finished but no-one has yet managed to better the time of 30th man out, Gustav Larsson.

1225: Larsson's time is proving hard to beat, with Dutchman Joost Posthuma (Rabobank), the latest of the 46 finishers so far, coming home 11 seconds adrift.

1145: Sweden's Gustav Larsson is the new leader in 1:03:17.08. The Francaise des Jeux rider was quickest at every intermediate checkpoint.

1135: Bradley Wiggins' lead is short-lived as Colombian Victor Hugo Pena of Phonak thunders home in 1:03:52.580.

1125: Bradley Wiggins is the first man to dip under one hour five minutes as he sets the target time of 1:04:53.370.

1115: Bradley Wiggins is on course to lead as he blazes through the 46km checkpoint in 57:51.

1107: Briton Bradley Wiggins is flying and scorches through 36km in 45:48, the best yet.

1100: France's Sebastien Joly is the first man home in 1:09:19.35 but he is quickly beaten by Magnus Backstedt in 1:05:58.140.

1058: Britain's Bradley Wiggins of Cofidis sets the best time so far at the first intermediate checkpoint at 16.5km of 21:10.

1045: Swansea-based Swede Magnus Backstedt of the Liquigas team is the fastest through 36km in 46 minutes 22 seconds.
