Wiggins (right) again got the better of his rival McGee |
Bradley Wiggins pulled off a repeat of his Olympic gold on Saturday when he comfortably held off Athens silver medallist Brad McGee in Manchester. Their 4km pursuit was a repeat of the final in Greece in 2004 and once again Wiggins proved too good, crossing the line seven seconds ahead of McGee.
"I'm really pleased with the ride tonight," said the Briton.
"I wanted to set a good time to prove to myself that I could do so before concentrating on the road."
It was a rare showdown between the world's leading two pursuiters, who look unlikely to face each other now at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Wiggins' next major target is the Paris-Nice prologue, with the Tour de France prologue his long-term aim for the season.
