Russell Downing won the British road race championship with a well-timed surge to the line on Sunday. The 26-year-old edged out Olympic silver-medallist Steve Cummings, while Yanto Barker claimed the bronze medal in a photo-finish from Chris Newton.
Defending champion Roger Hammond, this year competing for Lance Armstrong's Discovery team, finished well down the field on the 206km course.
Downing next begins preparations for the Tour of Britain in August.
