David McCann was overlooked for last year's Olympic Games |
Belfast cyclist David McCann has been included in the Ireland team for next week's World Championships in Madrid. McCann's impressive form this season has earned him selection for the individual road race alongside Mark Scanlon and David O'Loughlin.
The Belfastman won the Tour of Ulster in May and has maintained fine form over the summer.
Ballymena rider Ryan Connor will be among the Irish hopefuls in the under-23 road race.
Connor's Irish team-mates in the under-23 race will include Philip Deignan, Paidi O'Brien, Andrew McQuaid and Michael Concannon.
David O'Loughlin will be the Ireland's sole entrant in the time trial events. Siobhan Dervan will represent Ireland in elite women's road race.
