Italian rider Filippo Pozatto of the Quickstep team claimed victory in the second stage of the Tour of Germany. Pozatto pipped local favourite Joerg Jaksche of the Libert Seguros team on the finishing line of the 199.3km stage from Pegnitz to Bodemais.
Quickstep rider Bram Tankink of the Netherlands retains the yellow jersey after winning Monday's opening stage.
German favourite Jan Ullrich was one of a 20-strong group to cross the line just behind the winners.
Jaksche had broken free with only two kilometres to go, but in the final uphill section, Pozzato led the sprint and managed to catch him on the line.
"I found myself in the leading group and in the finish, I did not expect to catch Jaksche," said the 23-year-old.
In Wednesday's third stage the peloton will cross the border to Austria in a 227.3 km stage from Bodenmais to Kufstein.
