Six-times Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong is planning to compete in next year's one-day Tour of Flanders. "I want to prove that I can do this," the American was quoted as saying in Belgian newspaper Het Volk.
Armstrong has been criticised in the past for being too much of a one-event specialist, and has spoken about broadening his horizons in 2005.
The 257km Tour of Flanders from Bruges to Meerbeke takes place on 3 April and is partly on cobbled roads.
Germany's Steffen Wesemann won the 88th Tour of Flanders World Cup race last April.
Armstrong's comment was made during an interview to be broadcast on Dutch television in January.
The Texan is the only rider in history to win July's Tour de France six times.
He suggested earlier this month, though, that he may skip next year's race to chase other ambitions.
His team director said a decision would be made on the Tour de France early in 2005.
