Wegelius must undergo more tests |
British cyclist Charles Wegelius has been cleared of doping despite failing a blood test in October. A subsequent test for the banned drug EPO (erythropoietin) cleared Wegelius, according to the International Cycling Union (ICU).
"The UCI submitted the rider to haematic and clinical tests," said Wegelius' team De Nardi Colpack.
"It excluded the use of EPO or other doping susbtances capable of altering blood levels."
Wegelius failed the original blood test during the Tour of Lombardy and was immediately handed a 15-day ban that saw him excluded from the final leg of the World Cup.
However, the Briton denied ever taking EPO and his team insisted the failed test was a consequence of the removal of his spleen following a motorbike accident in 1998.
"The results from the tests confirmed the total good faith of the rider and the sporting team," said De Nardi.
