Cooke told to rest
Nicole Cooke
Cooke has been in the wars in recent weeks
Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke has been told to take time to recover from recent crashes after suffering from fluid on the knee.

She received seven stitches in her left knee after a crash at the beginning of June, but hit the same spot in her comeback race in the middle of the month.

Despite the discomfort, the Wick rider was able to reclaim the British Road Race Championship, but she has since sought fresh medical advice.

"There is no damage to any of the bones or the tendons, the problem was hitting a spoke in the crash in Trentino," Cooke told her official website.

"My left knee is about a third full of fluid. Riding the British Championship and some hard training last week will have made it worse.

"If I carry on working hard the knee will just produce more fluid, so I have to take it easy this week.

"Then I can start working hard again in the build up to the Europeans and the next World Cup race towards the end of next month."
