Former cycling track Olympic champion Stefan Steinweg has been banned for two years on a doping charge.

Steinweg, who won gold in the team pursuit at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, apparently tried to smuggle banned substances into Australia.

Australian customs at Melbourne airport seized hormone and sleeping tables from the cyclist in February.

The International Cycling Union has officially accepted the registration of Jan Ullrich's new team, Bianchi.

This paves the way for the former Tour de France winner to compete in this year's race.

Ullrich's new team stepped in to the fray at the last moment after the suspension of his former team, Coast.

Christophe Moreau of the Credit Agricole team won overall from fellow Frenchman Didier Rous, with another countryman Laurent Brochard in third.

Britain's David Millar, riding for Cofidis, finished sixth.

1 May: Rebellin wins Round Henninger Tower race

Italy's Davide Rebellin won the Round the Henninger Tower cycle race on Thursday.

German Erik Zabel came second in the 208km race around Frankfurt, and Spain's Igor Astarloa finished third.
