Ullrich in demand
Jan Ullrich
Ullrich has been with Team Telekom since 1995
Jan Ullrich has given himself two weeks to decide on a new team after announcing his intention to leave Team Telekom.

The Danish CSC team of Bjarne Riis and German outfit Coast have both confirmed they are interested in securing the services of the 1997 Tour de France winner.

"I have not yet decided. I have had more than two offers and I will decide without any doubt in two weeks," said Ullrich.

Ullrich was suspended for six months by the German Cycling Federation last July after testing positive for amphetamines the previous month.

Former Telekom team captain Riis, who won the 1996 Tour de France, wants to hire his former sidekick.

But Riis must first find a new sponsor after the departure of CSC's main backer, Italian Internet and telecoms firm Tiscali.

"We want him and are in negotiations. But while nothing is concluded 100% with the new sponsor I can't make a contract," admitted Riis.

Essen-based team Coast have also made their interest known to Ullrich's manager Wolfgang Strohband.

"It's no secret that we're interested in Jan," said Coast's sporting director Marcel Wust.

Ullrich tested positive after becoming frustrated following a series of injuries, and admitted having taken two pills at a nightclub during a personal crisis.

Telekom had frozen his wages since the ban but were making overtures to him about renewing his contract when the current one finished at the end of this year.

But Strohband said: "Jan has come to the conclusion that he needs a new start. He needs to find a new motivation in a new environment."
