The Olympic kilometre champion and team-mates Craig MacLean and Chris Hoy broke the championship record on their way to victory. The trio recorded 45.477 seconds for the three-lap event to beat VC St Raphael trio Andy Slater, Barney Storey and Anton Quist by one-and-a-half seconds. City of Edinburgh RC, whom Queallly and Hoy helped to the title last year, claimed the bronze medals. Team Athena tried three different combinations on their way to the title. With Queally setting the pace on the opening lap, they clocked 46.442 to qualify fastest. That was after a false start when Hoy's rear wheel had slipped from under him and they were given a re-run. Then, in the second round, they set a championship best of 45.679 with MacLean going first, followed by Hoy and Queally. In the final, MacLean again set the pace on the opening lap, with Queally and Hoy next. | See also: 27 Aug 02 | Cycling 24 Aug 02 | Cycling 20 Aug 02 | Cycling Top Cycling stories now: Links to more Cycling stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
