1610: Robbie McEwen beats Eriz Zabel in the bunch sprint to take the green jersey from the German with O'Grady moving into third. Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano retains the yellow jersey.

1607: Fellow Frenchman Jerome Pineau comes home second for the Bonjour team with O'Grady and Ludo Dierckxsens following behind.

1606: Halgand crosses the line to become the first Frenchman to win a stage this year.

1604: With only 1km left, Halgand has an unassailable lead.

1600: Halgand makes a strong break, leaving the other three riders trailing in his wake.

1552: The lead group has riders from four teams. They are: Jerome Pineau, Halgand, O'Grady and Ludo Dierckxsens.

1545: O'Grady, Pineau, Halgand and Dierkxsens lead, with a group of six 15" behind and the peloton a further 3'14" back. Etxebarria is off the back of the second group.

1541: Halgand makes it three out of three as he collects another five points after the final climb of the stage.

1539: The front 10 begin their ascent of the Cote d'Auga.

1538: With just over 20km remaining, the leaders are maintaining their three-minute advantage over the peloton as they prepare for the final climb.

1532: The main group are still three minutes behind as the race enters the final 30km.

1521: Patrice Halgand wins the second climb.

1512: The gap between the leaders and the peloton now stands at more than three minutes. The average speed of the race is 52 kilometres per hour (over 30 mph).

1510: The last time a time a stage of the Tour concluded in Pau - in 1999 - David Etxebarria was the winner. His namesake (no relation) Unai Etxebarria is in the leading group and in contention this time.

1502: With less than 50km to go, the leading group are 2'37" ahead of the peloton.

1456: Results of the first climb - up the Cote d'Eugenie-les-Bains:

1455: Jalabert begins to make his way through the riders after replacing his bike for the second time.

1453: The peloton, led by the ONCE-Eroski team, is 2'33" behind the front group.

1448: Former world number one Laurent Jalabert drops back to change bikes.

1444: There are just over 60km of the stage remaining. The searing pace looks set to ensure the race will be over in less than three hours.

1440: The peloton now trails the leaders by over two minutes.

1435: Flickinger wins the next intermediate sprint at the 80km mark with O'Grady in second and Vogondy in third.

1434: The 11 members of the leading group are: Mattan (Cofidis), O'Grady (CA), Cassani (Domo), Horillo (Mapei), Flickinger (AG2R), Zaballa (Kelme), Vogondy (FDJeux.com), Pineau (Bonjour), Dierckxsens (Lampre), Unai Etxebarria (Euskaltel) and Halgand (Jean Delatour).

1430: The front 11, which includes some powerful sprinters, are now 50" ahead of the peloton. O'Grady is one of the sprinters in the leading group.

1427: The leaders are joined by six riders from the chasing pack.

1425: The front group has split with five riders now at the front. They are: Cassani, O'Grady, Flickinger, Mattan and Horillo.

1423: The group's lead has been reduced to 30". Mattan and O'Grady are two of the riders in the 16.

1416: A breakaway group of 16 riders establish a lead. They are 37" ahead of the chasing pack.

1410: Upsetting news comes through that the seven year-old boy who was hit by one of tour's publicity cars earlier in the day has died in hospital.

1407: The average speed for the first hour is 54.5 kilometres per hour.

1406: Spanish rider Pedro Horrillo of the Mapei team surges clear on his own.

1404: A group of four - Durand, Lelli, Piil and Renier briefly break, but are rapidly caught by the peloton.

1355: Jacky Durand attempts to pull clear. He is quickly joined by Fred Rodriguez.

1353: Robbie McEwen wins the first intermediate sprint ahead of Erik Zabel, who is followed by Stuart O'Grady.

1351: Alvaro Gonzalez Galdeano - brother of leader Igor - is forced to retire.

1347: Alvaro Gonzalez Galdeano drops to the back to receive treatment on his right thigh.

1341: The race is very lively with plenty of attacks - though, at present, they are unsuccessful. The peloton is chasing hard to recapture escapees.

1337: The riders are all together once more.

1330: Sadly, there is news that a seven-year-old boy has been hit by one of the cars in the Tour's publicity caravan. He has been transferred to a hospital in Bordeaux.

1324: The leading group increase the distance between themselves and the pack. They are now 20" clear.

1320: The leaders move a further 2" ahead of the peloton.

1318: Five riders from five teams are currently 12" ahead of the peloton. They are: Leon van Bon (Domo), Inigo Chaureau (AG2R), Robbie Hunter (Mapei), Nico Mattan (Cofidis) and Martin Hvastija (Alessio).

1312: With six kilometres raced already, the riders are setting a fast pace. So far no-one has been able to escape the peloton.

1310: Once more the leader is caught.

1309: The peloton quickly closes the gap. Jens Voigt is the next to try and establish a lead.

1308: Nicola Loda from the Fassa Bortolo team makes an attack within the first kilometre of the race.

1305: The stage officially gets underway.
