| Profile: Michael Boogerd Boogerd's best finish so far has been fifth Boogerd had a positive sporting upbringing, as a school friend of former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek.
The Dutch cyclist has made a name for himself and was tipped as one of the bright talents of cycling as a 26-year-old in the 1998 Tour de France. His fifth place that season was his best ever although 10th last year shows he must still be counted among the leading protagonists. Expectation has been high in Holland and the 30-year-old has tended to disappoint demanding fans expecting more consistency from their riders. But his skill in the mountains and strength on the flat could ensure a retun to those heights, if he avoids the early accidents which accounted for his departure in 2000. |
