Williams (left) and France beat Essex's Dominic and Nigel Reed in the final |
Shropshire's Allan Williams and Warwick France have won the pairs at the English Short Mat Bowls finals, after success in the fours in 2009 and 2010. Nick Tideswell, Darran Beardmore and Alan Jones followed up with victory for the same county in the triples. Based in Stoke, they represent Shropshire following the demise of Staffordshire's county team. All the winners will be invited to join the England squad for next season's British Isles international series. Williams and France completed their success at the Kempston indoor bowls club in Bedford with a tight 9-8 victory in the final against Dominic and Nigel Reed from Essex. France also has national title victories under his belt from 1996 and 1998, when he played with Chris Shakeshaft. The triples triumph for Tideswell, Beardmore and Jones came against Chris and Simon Willies and Matt Smith from the West Midlands in the final. Dominic Reed clinched the singles championship with a 13-10 win against Jim Mannell.
