 Jonathan Ross beat Canada's Hirendra Bhartu 9-5, 8-3 |
Northern Ireland's Jonathan Ross beat Canada's Hirendra Bhartu to reach the quarter-finals of the Potters Holidays world singles championship on Tuesday. The Lisnagarvey player, seeded 16 at Hopton-on-Sea, came from behind to take the first set 9-5 and had the second in the bag at 8-3 with an end to spare. The 36-year-old Ross will face Steve Glasson of Australia or England's Rob Paxton in the last eight on Friday. "I was well pleased, particularly with my opening bowls," said Ross. "That forced him into playing a series of running bowls, and after that his drawing went off a bit, leaving the door open for me. "I am not looking too closely at the ranking points just now. I am staying focused on Friday's quarter finals and will take each match as it comes. Glasson is the current world outdoor champion while Paxton lost in the semi-finals three years ago.
