Jackson was World Pairs champion with Gourlay in 2006 and 2007 |
Lincoln bowls player Billy Jackson and partner David Gourlay were beaten 4-9 8-5 2-1 in the World Indoor Pairs final by Ian Bond and Andy Thomson. They won the first set at Potters Leisure and led in the second, but Bond and Thomson fought back to level before winning a dramatic tie-break. It is the second year in a row that Jackson and Gourlay have been runners-up in the tournament in Norfolk. Jackson said: "It was disappointing to lose last year but this year it hurts." After each pair won a point in the tie-break to force a third and decisive end Gourlay produced a wonder shot to be in with a chance of victory, only for Thomson to go one better by taking the jack and his own bowl into the ditch to make it virtually impossible for Gourlay to snatch the win. Jackson's attention now turns to defending his World Indoor Singles title, starting with a second round match on Wednesday against Canadian Hirendra Bhartu.
