Alex Marshall is one of three Scots in the semi-finals |
Scots took three of the four places in the semi-finals of the Engage International Open on a day when top seed Greg Harlow made a surprise exit. The Englishman was edged out 7-6 5-7 2-1 by fifth-seeded Welshman Jason Greenslade at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
Third seed Paul Foster beat another Englishman, Andy Thomson, 6-4 8-5, while Alex Marshall (4) ousted Wales' Robert Weale (6) 8-2 7-6.
Scottish-born David Gourlay, now of Australia, beat Mervyn King 7-5 8-8.
It was the second round in a row in which Gourlay, seeded second, had made a narrow escape against an English opponent, having previously edged out Mark Royal by a point.

Gourlay now faces Foster in the semi-finals in a match-up between two players who have won world championships while representing Scotland.
Greenslade, who ended Harlow's 20-match unbeaten run at Ponds Forge, takes on Marshall.
And the Welshman told the World Bowls website: "On the night that I saw the draw, I dreamt that I played Greg - and won."
Harlow was philosophical that his fine run had ended in Sheffield.
"It was a great game to be involved with," he said. "I put absolutely everything into it.
"I'm disappointed to lose but not unhappy with the way I played.
"The record was bound to go at some point, but all I was focussing on was trying to get into the semi-finals of a ranking tournament."
