Top seed Mervyn King survived a scare against fellow Englishman Les Gillett at the World Indoor Singles Championships in Norfolk. King won the first set 11-5, but the sixteeth seed struck back 10-8 in the second before King edged through to the fourth round 2-1 in the tie-break.
Australia's Commonwealth Games singles gold medallist, Kelvin Kerkow, also stayed on track.
He defeated Scottish qualifier Charlie Millar 7-7 10-6 in the second round.
Mixed pairs title holders John Price, of Wales, and Carol Ashby, of England, crashed to a 12-2 7-3 defeat by Scotland's Alex Marshall and Guernsey's Alison Merrien.
But Marshall's fellow Scot, David Gourlay, has failed in his attempt to add the mixed title to the men's pairs title won last week.
He and Rosa Gandara, of the USA, were beaten 7-5 8-5 by England's Ian Bond and Kiwi Noreen Stratford.
Scotland's Karen Dawson reached the quarter-final of the women's matchplay when she defeated Springbok Tracy Meyeridricks 11-3 12-0.
Dawson will now face title holder Ellen Falkner, of England, on Monday.
