Chris Finch's men were unable to beat Italy |
Pops Mensah-Bonsu scored 19 points and Jarret Hart added 15 as Great Britain lost 83-74 to Italy in the final game of the Sardinia tournament. Chris Finch's men trailed by 20 points in the third quarter before launching a comeback that almost won them the game. In the fourth quarter, GB hit 15 points without reply to trail by just four points with two minutes remaining. Italy's two main scorers, Luca Vitali and Matteo Soragna, then ensured their team won the match and the tournament. GB trailed 53-36 at half-time and looked set for a lesson in basketball from a well-drilled Italian outfit. But they gave as good as they got in the third quarter before scaring the Italians in the fourth quarter, with Hart, Mensah-Bonsu and Nick George all outstanding. Great Britain now travel to Belgium for a further training camp and two more internationals, against Belgium and Sweden. As in Italy, they will be without Luol Deng, whose insurance problems have yet to be resolved.
