Stronach hopes the deal can bring the sport to a greater audience |
Plymouth Raiders coach Gary Stronach hopes the British Basketball League's new television deal can boost the profile of the sport in the UK. Setanta Sports will show games until the end of the season, starting with Sunday's BBL Trophy final.
"The last few years we've been in the wilderness but this is the injection in the arm we needed. It couldn't be any bigger," Stronach told BBC Radio Devon.
The Raiders' first televised match will be against MK Lions on 16 April.
The BBL had a deal with Sky Sports and then the ill-fated ITV Digital platform, before it collapsed in 2002.
Stronach said: "It's not a cash deal, it's just getting exposure for basketball.
"It's fantastic news for the BBL. It's something we've been brokering for a long time."
