Cleveland fans had worried that James was considering a move |
LeBron James has signed a three-year extension to his contract said to be about $60m (33m) that keeps him with the Cleveland Cavaliers until 2009-10. The contract includes an option that would allow the 21-year-old to extend the deal by one season.
During his three years with the club, James has helped turn the Cavaliers from perennial strugglers into NBA title contenders.
"I am very excited and happy to be re-signing," he said.
"Staying in Cleveland provides me with the unique opportunity to continue to play in front of my family, friends and fans.
"I look forward to working toward bringing a championship to our great fans and the city of Cleveland."
