The England men's team made a winning start to the Sofia Awards tournament in Bulgaria with a 66-62 victory over Macedonia in their opening game. England had a superb first half and, thanks to a 16-0 spree, they led 46-28 just after the interval.
Macedonia recovered to trail 59-57 with 32 seconds to play before late free throws by Germayne Forbes brought England to victory.
John Amaechi top-scored on 17 points with Forbes finishing on 11.
England face hosts Bulgaria in their second game on Saturday and finish against Cyprus on Sunday.
